Congress leader Ajay Rai stated that he would not apologise to Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani for his “Latka Jhatka” remarks.
Union minister Smriti Irani slammed Congress leader Ajay Rai on Monday after he commented on her visiting Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi to do “latkas” and “jhatkas” (a derogatory reference to dance moves) and dared Rahul Gandhi to run for the seat in 2024.
Following Ajay Rai’s Remark, a Fir has been lodged By the (BJP) Sonbhadra women’s wing chief Pushpa Singh against former MLA and regional president of the Congress Ajay Rai for his comments against senior BJP official and Central minister Smriti Irani.
The FIR was lodged with the Robertsganj police in Sonbhadra under Sections 354(a) (making sexually coloured remarks),501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also sent a notice Rai to appear before it on December 28.
However, Rai Stands by his Remarks, “I didn’t intend to insult anyone. It’s our colloquial language which means that somebody suddenly appears & says something and then disappears. Rai said Amethi has served as the Gandhi family’s home. “Rahul ji has been the Lok Sabha MP from there, so has been Rajiv (Gandhi) ji and Sanjay (Gandhi) ji, and they have served it. Most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure.
Asserting that his language was not impermissible, Congress leader Ajay Rai stated that he would not apologise to Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani for his remarks. Rai made his speech after receiving criticism for his comments on Irani.

“Heard you (Rahul Gandhi) have announced to contest from Amethi in 2024 from one of your provincial leaders in an indecent manner. So, should I take it as certain that you would contest from Amethi? Anand Dubey, a spokesperson for the Uttar Pradesh BJP, criticised Rai’s remarks sharply and claimed that Congress officials had always used “anti-women” language.
According to Dubey, “The Congress has consistently used anti-women language. It demonstrates the thinking and culture of Congress. Such sentiments from the leader of a party that has given the country a female prime minister and once had a female president are undoubtedly disgusting,” as reported by the news source PTI.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said this is not a ‘sanyog’ but a ‘prayog’ sponsored by the Gandhi family. “Rahul Gandhi loyalist Ajay Rai makes shocking “latke jhatke” comment on Smriti Irani ji. This is not a Sanyog – it is a prayog sponsored by the first family to take political revenge because Smriti ji defeated the dynast – Congress even insulted 1st Woman Adivasi President,” Poonawala tweeted.
