Shocking developments unfolded in the case of the murder of former minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique. Shiv Kumar Gautam, the main shooter, admitted to the police that after firing at the politician, he stood outside Lilavati Hospital for 30 minutes confirming if Mr Siddique had indeed died from the bullets. Gautam mingled with the crowd outside the hospital while keeping a close eye on the situation. But once he came to know the condition of Siddique was critical, he fled the place.
The attack happened on October 12 at 9:11 p.m. in the Bandra region of Mumbai. Siddique, 66, was fired upon twice in the chest. He was taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he breathed his last. Gautam, immediately after the attack, had taken off his shirt and ran to Kurla, catching a local train towards Thane.
According to Gautam, he was supposed to meet Dharmaraj Kashyap and Gurmail Singh at the Ujjain railway station. There, he was to hold a meeting with one member of the Bishnoi gang, who would take him to Vaishno Devi. Alas, the plan turned sour when the police arrested Kashyap and Singh.

They gave away Gautam because the suspicious activities of the four friends attracted the attention of the police. They had been buying clothes of different sizes and were planning to meet Gautam in the forest area. As such, more suspicion against them from the police became evident. The four friends used internet calls while communicating with each other and had been assisting Gautam dodge the police.
Cooperating police from the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) nabbed Gautam along with four of his deputies: Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhilendra Pratap Singh, close to the Nepal border.
Gautam had been on the run since the murder, traversing Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. After spending about seven days in Pune, he went to Jhansi and Lucknow before hiding finally in a small village near Nanpara, Uttar Pradesh, where the police finally apprehended him.
The investigation continues as authorities probe the extent of Gautam’s connections and the full scope of the plan behind Baba Siddique’s assassination.
