On Monday, the Supreme Court will hear the ongoing dispute between the Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments and their governors over delayed assent to Bills. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will consider the plea accusing governors of delay. Recently, the Tamil Nadu Assembly re-adopted 10 Bills returned by Governor RN Ravi. The Supreme Court, expressing serious concern earlier, addressed the delay issue. Similarly, Kerala moved the court, asserting Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s delayed approvals infringe on people’s rights, citing delays in eight legislations. Agrarian unrest intensifies with Punjab farms protesting against perceived unjust punitive measures.

Punjab Farmers Rally Against Injustice
In Punjab, 18 farm unions plan to stage protests at deputy commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate offices, responding to what they perceive as unjust punitive measures by the state government against farmers for stubble burning. Alleging a failure to address the issue properly, the unions call on affected farmers, facing actions like FIRs, red entries in passbooks, and passport cancellations, to join the protest.

President Draupadi Murmu is currently in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, with the local administration ensuring a smooth visit. Conducting a trial landing, an Indian Air Force chopper prepared for President Murmu’s arrival at Baripada Reserve Police fields. During her visit, President Murmu, a native of Rairangpur, will be the chief guest at the literary festival of the All India Santali Writers’ Association and inaugurate the new Eklavya Model Residential School at Mota. This marks her second visit since assuming office.
