CBI Alleges Fabrication of Evidence by Kolkata Police in Gruesome RG Kar Rape-Murder Case, Triggering Nationwide Outrage and Protests
The CBI has made some very serious charges in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case and has accused the Kolkata’s Tala police station of doctoring some records. The case pertains to the suicide of a junior doctor whose dead body was found in the seminar hall of the medical college on August 9. The CBI told a special court that CCTV footage of the police station has been recovered and sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).

The CBI has found that records of Tala police station may have been tampered or fabricated during the course of investigation. During the investigation, officers in charge such as Tala Police Station’s Abhijit Mondal and former medical college principal Sandip Ghosh were interrogated. The court has granted them a judicial remand, and their judicial custody has been further produced till September 30, 2024.

The agency also raised an issue of the delay of two days in the seizure of crucial evidence such as the belongings of the main accused, Sanjay Roy. Roy was arrested shortly after the crime was reported and the CBI is looking into the conspiracy between Roy, Ghosh, and Mondal.
This heinous act has led to protests across the country where junior doctors protested in Kolkata demanding justice. The family has also accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata police of trying to hush up the incident by offering them money. It is still under investigation and the CBI has found other inconsistencies in the case.
