BJP Accuses Kolkata Police of Mishandling Crime Scene at RG Kar Hospital After Video Shows Outsiders Present; Police Defend Actions, Claim Area Was Secured
The latest incident of the BJP criticizing the administration of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata occurred in the aftermath of the heinous gang rape and subsequent murder of a second year postgraduate student on 9 August. The BJP has referred to a clip that shows a rather large room with many people inside, including what the BJP claims are doctors, hospital staff, and outsiders present at the scene of the crime shortly after the body of the victim was found.

As per the allegations of BJP, the video posted in twitter by Amit Malviya, the head of BJP’s IT cell and in charge of West Bengal – shows that seminar room in complete disarray thus casting doubts on the possibilities of preserving crucial evidences. It is said that the video captures different people including Prasun Chattopadhyay who is the PA of the former principal of the school and others like a lawyer and a forensic demonstrator mimicking inside the crime scene area.

Police fail to ensure proper demarcation of crime area: Malviya questioned why Kolkata Police did not stop the crowd to avoid tampering of the crucial evidence. He accused the police of allowing “outsiders” into the area, but limiting access to the victim’s family, and opined the mishandling of the crime scene may have been premeditated. The BJP also accused the Mamata Banerjee lead government of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in providing cover for the ensure that the truth behind the incident is not revealed.
The Kolkata Police, responding to the allegations from BJP members, stated that the video that has been circulated by them shows a section of the locality that was not restricted by the policemen and the media during the investigation of the crime scene on the day of the incident. Protected persons was only the certain police officers, doctors and forensic experts in experiments for entering the real crime scene. They asserted that the area shown in the video was not under the immediate control of the police and that the scene itself was secured shortly after the discovery of the body.

The tragic case involves the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was found dead after completing her shift. Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect, was apprehended the day following the incident. The ongoing dispute over the handling of the crime scene has intensified scrutiny of both the police and the political environment surrounding the investigation, raising serious questions about the integrity of the probe and the broader implications for justice.
