RG Kar Case: Controversy Erupts Over Disturbing Calls to Victim’s Family and Mamata Banerjee’s Provocative Remarks Amidst Growing Protests
The brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Hospital of Kolkata has caused a huge furore among the public. At the time of the tragedy, the family of the victim was said to have got three heartbreaking calls from the hospital in question which is currently under more pressure. India Today claimed that the first call was from assistant superintendent of RG Kar Hospital where the family was told that their daughter was very ill and needed to be taken immediately to the hospital. When the father asked the member of the hospital staff several times about the details of her condition they only answered vaguely and said that the doctors would give more information when they come in.
In the second call, the staff member just confirmed that the victim was not well, was going to be admitted. The third call was more serious as the caller said a possibility of suicide or death which create much more confusion and stress to the family of the victim. This type of communication has raised more concern over the way the case is being conducted.
Amidst all these, the Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has alleged that Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal has indulged in preventing investigation into the case. Chowdhury accused Banerjee of not going into further details of the occurrence because the investigation might reveal other details that are sensitive. He said that his statements and attempts to mislead the public are not working anymore because the case has already came out in the open and Banerjee now encourages protests.
In a related development, an FIR has been registered against Banerjee for provocative statements that may lead to regional tension. On Wednesday, she allegedly said that violence, which has been already witnessed in Bengal, will further extend to other states if efforts are made to tinker with the status of Bengal. The case of lawyer Vineet Jindal that was taken to court has such statements considered as provocative and deleterious for the consolidation of the country.

Furthermore, Banerjee has denied accusations that she threatened junior doctors who have been striking for over three weeks in protest of the brutal crime. She has labeled such claims as false and part of a disinformation campaign, asserting her support for the doctors’ movement. The case continues to ignite nationwide protests, as the public demands justice for the victim and accountability for those responsible.
