Rituals for Kala Ashtami
It is common among the devotees to undertake fasting in which they do not take food or water during the day. Quite an exciting day that starts with a bath in the early morning and goes on to Lords Bhairava Pujan. Key rituals include:
Morning Rituals: Take a bath early in the morning to make yourself clean when start the puja?
Cleanliness: The specific intervention is to properly clean your home with emphasis on cleaning the puja room.
Setting Up: Procure a wooden plank and then install an idol of Lord Kaal Bhairav on it.
Offerings: Blossom flowers offer immediately, light mustard oil diya and incense stick at the god’s feet.
Chanting: Chant the Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam and other Khaag snaan stotram or Hanuman Sankat mochan Bhairav mantra.
Bhog Prasad: Present home made sweets like Rott, Gram flour Halwa, Poode, or Malpua for lunch or dinner.
Temple Visit: Light a mustard oil diya at a temple, IT means seeking the blessings for health & prosperity.
Night Vigil: Wake up throughout the night involved in divine hymns and loud chanting.
Evening Offerings: Please black sesame seeds and mustard oil before the deity of Lord Bhairava.
Breaking the Fast: In the evening, satvik home-made sweets or dishes like, halwa, sweet rott, sweet parantha, can be taken to break the fast.
Significance
Kala Ashtami has got a lot do spiritual importance. Bhairava is worshipped as the lord of destruction and the destroyer of fear with prominence given to the Lord as Bhairava. Kala Ashtami is observed with the reference of overcoming all the flaws of life and it also endows the devotees with courage and protection.
