Pregnant Woman and Family Escape Fireball as Ambulance Explodes in Maharashtra
A pregnant woman and her family narrowly escape a massive explosion after their ambulance catches fire in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district.
Pregnant Woman and Family Escape Ambulance Explosion After Fire Breaks Out on Maharashtra’s National Highway in Jalgaon District
In a shocking incident of Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, a pregnant woman and her family had a miraculous escape after the ambulance they were traveling in erupted into flames and exploded on Wednesday. The accident occurred on a national highway near Dadawadi while the ambulance was on its way from Erandol Government Hospital to Jalgaon District Hospital.
The driver of the ambulance, noticing smoke emitting from the engine, immediately stopped the vehicle. With swift movements, he ushered the pregnant woman and her family out of the ambulance, and himself, too, and requested the other pedestrians and passers-by to draw away. Five minutes passed, and before anyone knew it, all hell let loose again: flames engulfed the oxygen tank inside the ambulance, and it exploded. The force of the blast shattered windows in nearby homes; remarkably, though, nobody got hurt in the blast. The deafening sound of the blast captured in a video has left the viewers dazed by the force of the explosion.

While little is known about where the fire originated, this accident has brought to the fore a timely reminder about dangers lurking under the noses of emergency vehicles. Ambulances carrying critical patients are not exempted either from mechanical failure and may have a potentially catastrophic aftermath if mishandled properly.
A similar accident was reported a month ago in the Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. An ambulance was on fire near a petrol pump and eventually had an explosion. Driver Vivek Gupta from the ambulance saw smoke coming out from the vehicle and tried to curb it with the help of employees at the petrol pump. The fire then reached the oxygen tank of the ambulance, which led to an explosion. Sadly, an eye witness gets injured and hospitalised. In contrast to the Maharashtra ambulance, a privately owned vehicle in Uttar Pradesh has no relation with any hospital.
Both incidents highlight how utterly essential it is that emergency vehicles, especially ambulances, be kept in good working order and checked regularly because they are used to transport patients in precarious circumstances. They also underscore the need for swift thinking and preparation on the part of drivers for a vehicle to guard passengers and bystanders when such a scenario comes up.
