A very decorated and seasoned fighter pilot, Commandant has taken over the coveted position of Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF) from Monday. He took place the position of Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari, who completed three years of tenure as IAF chief, retiring from service. The handover ceremony was shared by the Ministry of Defence as Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari passed the mantle to his successor.

Born on 27 October 1964, ACM Singh has seen near four decades of service, having joined the fighter pilot stream of the IAF in December 1984. With more than 5,000 hours of flying, he stands out as a master of both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. He has commanded frontline fighter squadrons, managed an airbase, and led the MiG-29 upgrade project in Moscow.

Singh has commanded and served in instructional and staff appointments in a variety of roles at many levels but has also been in charge of flight testing of India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft, known as LCA Tejas.

At this stage, Singh faces quite a few serious challenges-the delay in the delivery of LCA Tejas Mark 1A variants is one among them. However, he will turn out to be a dynamic leader and operational specialist who will transform the IAF and take its potential to unprecedented heights. A scion of decorated officer, Singh is not only the exceptional recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal but is also an adherent to fitness, which exemplifies all-round dedication towards service and excellence.
