BJP vs. Congress in polls
As part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) recent series of five yatras, the upcoming ‘Karyakarta Mahakumbh’ event in Bhopal on September 25 is set to mark the formal conclusion of these yatras. BJP President JP Nadda initiated the first yatra in Chitrakoot, Satna, on September 3. These yatras have been strategically organized ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections later this year, where a fierce battle is expected between the BJP and the Congress.
The BJP, exhibiting confidence, has already unveiled its election slogan, “abki bar 150 par” (victory in more than 150 seats), emphasizing its aspirations for a resounding electoral victory. In response, the Congress has launched a ‘Jan Akrosh Yatra’ in the state to spotlight what they perceive as the “failures” of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led state government.
In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress secured 114 seats out of 230, leading to the formation of a coalition government under Kamal Nath. However, the alliance faced a setback after 15 months when a faction of Congress MLAs, led by Jyotiraditya Scindia (now a Union minister), defected to the BJP.
