PM Modi will Visit US In February- Trump Says India Will Do ‘What’s Right’ On Illegal Immigrants
US President Donald Trump recently had a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they discussed various bilateral and global issues, including immigration. Trump expressed confidence that India would take the right action regarding the deportation of illegal immigrants, stating that “India will do what is right when it comes to taking back illegal immigrants.” This comes after Trump announced plans for a massive deportation operation, targeting illegal immigration, particularly along the southern border.
During the call, Trump and Modi also talked about the Indian Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to the US, which is expected to take place in February. The White House described the call as “productive,” highlighting discussions on ways to expand and deepen cooperation between the two nations. The statement also mentioned talks about potential plans for Modi to visit the White House, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic ties between the US and India.
Trump’s focus on tackling illegal immigration has been a key theme of his political agenda, and India has been cooperating with US authorities to take back illegal immigrants. The Indian government has reiterated its opposition to illegal immigration, citing its links to organized crime. According to reports, around 18,000 Indian nationals have been identified for deportation, and the Indian government will only accept the return of individuals whose nationality has been verified through proper documentation.
The issue of illegal immigration is a complex one, with many Indian nationals attempting to enter the US illegally. In 2023, nearly 90,000 Indian nationals were apprehended attempting to enter the US illegally. Trump’s executive order launching a massive deportation operation has sparked concerns about the impact on Indian nationals living in the US.
