PM Modi Lays Foundation for New Delhi University Campuses, Inaugurates Housing Projects, and Launches Veer Savarkar College Amid Debate
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a historic day for the city’s development, made a slew of transformative announcements meant to elevate education, housing, and infrastructure in the country’s capital. Among these, the foundation stone of two new Delhi University campuses, to be set up in east and west Delhi, and also of a Veer Savarkar college is to be laid. These projects are symbolic of a strong push toward enhancing the “Ease of Living” for the residents of Delhi.
Strengthening Delhi’s Education Hub
Delhi has long been recognized as a hub for education, attracting students from across India. PM Modi’s announcement underlines the government’s commitment to furthering this reputation.
The Prime Minister revealed plans for three transformative educational projects worth over ₹600 crore. These include:
A cutting-edge academic block at the Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar, East Delhi.
Another state-of-the-art academic block at the Western Campus in Dwarka.
The foundation stone for Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh.
These efforts are towards world-class learning environments and modern facilities for students to create an ecosystem of academic excellence.

Addressing Housing Needs with In-Situ Rehabilitation
The most significant projects introduced include the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project, which aims to provide slum-free benefits to the more economically weaker sections of Delhi. PM Modi launched 1,675 newly developed flats at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar. He assured these residences are dedicated improvements to better health and quality lives for slum-dwelling citizens.
At the event, Prime Minister Modi handed over keys personally to many recipients, marking that the government cares for the empowerment of citizens through the fulfillment of their basic needs in housing.
Boosting Urban Redevelopment
Urban redevelopment forms the bedrock of Delhi’s growth plan. PM Modi has inaugurated two major infrastructure projects:
World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar – The major development aims to boost trade and commerce.
General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar – The initiative is aimed at enhancing the residential facilities for the government employees who are the key to national progress.
The dedication of CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex at Dwarka is a reflection of the government’s intention to integrate modern facilities with effective administrative functioning.

Veer Savarkar College: A Controversial Dedication
The announcement of Veer Savarkar College sparked debate, with the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) urging PM Modi to name the institution after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Singh, a respected figure in Indian politics, passed away recently, prompting calls to honor his legacy.
Despite the controversy, PM Modi remained steadfast, emphasizing that the college would embody excellence in education and state-of-the-art facilities.

In a series of social media posts, PM Modi expressed his vision for Delhi’s transformation. He said, “Empowering the people of Delhi with better opportunities and quality of life remains our unwavering commitment.”
