PM Modi Highlights India-Bangladesh Ties, Liberation War Spirit in Letter

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a message of greeting to Bangladesh on its National Day by writing a letter to Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh. In this letter, PM Modi from the perspective of historical ties holds that the enduring spirit of the 1971 Liberation War should be put at the center of bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.  
He stated that the Liberation War sacrifices and history continue to keep guiding and strengthening the partnership of the two nations. This relationship has thrived across several domains resulting in concrete rewards to both citizens of India and Bangladesh.  
According to PM Modi, mutual respect and understanding are fundamental to enduring India’s commitment to this partnership. He expressed that into this commitment is the focus on common goals of peace, stability, prosperity, mutually weighed matching trade and national concerns. 
This futuristic endeavors thing clicked at the very time when PM Modi is likely to share the platform with Muhammad Yunus at the BIMSTEC event . This may be the first meeting of Prime Minister Modi with Muhammad Yunus after he took oath as head of the interim Bangladeshi government following the exit of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister. 
India-Bangladesh relations had their share of ups and downs post-revolution in Bangladesh. This is following reports claiming that the ouster of Sheikh Hasina rendered the already blemished relations worse, especially as to how minority communities in the country were treated. Here, PM Modi’s missive comes in at a time when it happens to be getting very much diplomatic-cum-attempt for reaffirming India’s commitment towards a collaborative and healthy relationship with Bangladesh, on common ground.

Likewise, President Droupadi Murmu wished the same for her Bangladeshi counterpart, Mohammed Shahabuddin, and reiterated how India favors a democratic as well as progressive Bangladesh. She underlined how central most countries had become to the ‘Neighbourhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policies of India and underscored the strategy of bilateral importance.  
Muhammad Yunus also paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War in his speech on the Independence Day of Bangladesh and mentioned the casualties in the unrest of July 2024. He condemned the atrocities committed during the conflict in 1971 and underscored the need to delve deep into history while solving the problems hindering the progress of the country. 
PM Modi’s letter aims to reinforce the foundational ties between India and Bangladesh through mutual sensitivity and a shared history. By appealing to the spirit of the Liberation War, the Prime Minister places before both nations an understanding of their shared destiny and the need for collaboration to fulfill common aspirations.
