PM Modi Flags off “Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor”, First Rapid Rail Service in India

The 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also introduced the "Namo Bharat" trains, highlighting India's accomplishments in technology and development.

On Friday, the 17-km priority segment of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The priority section of the 82.15 km line between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot was inaugurated and will begin accepting passengers on Saturday, October 21. By June 2025, the entire corridor is anticipated to be operational. Meanwhile, Hardeep Singh Puri, a Union minister, declared that the RRTS trains will be named “Namo Bharat.”

Five stations will make up the priority section: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. The trains will run from six in the morning till eleven at night, an official had previously told the news agency PTI. PM Modi formally laid the groundwork for the expanded Delhi-Meerut corridor in March 2019.

After flagging off the first Namo Bharat train on the priority part of the 82-km Delhi-Meerut RRTS today, PM Modi spoke at a gathering. When this project is finished in its entirety in the following 12 to 18 months, he declared that It will be at the people’s service.

To enter the concourse, he also purchased a smart card using the UPI payment method, becoming the first individual to do so, according to a senior official of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

Talking about Namo Bharat, PM Modi said, “The Namo Bharat train is modern, swift, and incredibly fast. The new journey and new resolves of the New India are defined by this Namo Bharat train.
