PM Modi Extends Warm Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 Greetings to Nation

Eid-ul-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is one of the largest festivities in the Islamic calendar.

PM Modi warm Wishes to Nation on Eid-Ul-Fitr!

Eid-ul-Fitr, the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of the largest festivities in the Islamic calendar. It is regarded as the end of a holy month when Muslims refrain from food, drink, and other things for most hours of the day. On March 31, 2025, this festival will be celebrated on Monday after the Shawwal crescent moon sighting on March 30 at various parts of the Indian territory, including Delhi and Kashmir.

Eid-ul-Fitr occurs according to the lunar Islamic calendar in which the sighting of these moons marks the beginning of each month. Therefore, it varies in dates used annually and vertically among different areas. This year on March 30, the sighting of the crescent moon indicates the closure of Ramadan and the opening of Shawwal, which is the tenth month in the Arabic calendar.

Eid-ul-Fitr is the day of collective prayers, feasting, and acts of charity. It is then followed by a sermon and special prayer, being Salat al-Eid, held by the community. Unlike other times, such prayer is usually conducted in public open spaces or big mosques. Muslims are also required to pay Zakat al-Fitr before joining the prayer, which serves as a form of charity meant to purify those observing the fast from foul and indecent speech or acts and to help the poor and needy join in the festivities.

The festival generally speaks of communal affinity and the strengthening of social ties. Cohabiting fight together with meals, gifts, and usual greetings. Traditional foods and sweets prepared during this time, in most cases, one wears new clothes as part of the events. It is a time for forgiveness and making amends, a definition of compassion and unity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his greetings to the nation on this auspicious day. His message read on the micro-blogging social network X (formerly called Twitter): “Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this festival enhance the spirit of hope, harmony and kindness in our society. Joy and success shall be with you in all your endeavors. Eid Mubarak!” This message conveys the essence of the festival of uniting goodwill among all diverse communities.

Best Wishes from the President Droupadi Murmu: She hoped that this day would foster the spirit of brotherhood and harmony in the society. Such messages from national leaders highlight Eid-ul-Fitr importance in bringing people together and promoting social cohesion and mutual respect.

Security measures were beefed in several big cities such as Delhi to ensure peaceful celebrations. Authorities were on high alert, as threats were apprehended, so vigilance is needed at all large functions. Quite contrary to the concerns raised, the spirit of Eid predominated while communities celebrated safely and joyously.

Eid-ul-Fitr reminds us how important charity and empathy are: by giving Zakat al-Fitr, Zakat may be emptied from all events, to assure that the festivities run in joyous rioting without exclusion for even the poorest of the people.

In India, Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 was celebrated with traditional rites, messages of hope from national leaders, and communal harmony. The very observance of this festival projects the values of compassion, unity, and generosity, reviving the rich composite cultural heritage of the nation. Eid was thus returned, as families and communities assembled to observe it—the true essence of Eid denoting peace, love, and mutual respect—giving ambience to the entire country.
