On this somber day, PM Modi paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar by saying, “On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, we pay our respects to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution and a beacon of social justice. Dr. Ambedkar’s tireless fight for equality and human dignity continues to inspire generations. Today, as we remember his contributions, we also reiterate our commitment to fulfilling his vision.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also echoed similar thoughts. “Babasaheb devoted his whole life to the cause of democratic values of liberty, equality, fraternity, and justice. It is a burning need of the hour to defend, protect and safeguard his ideals and ideas, as also his finest contribution to the nation — the Constitution of India.”

A child to Indian visionary jurist, economist, politician, and social reformer Dr. BR Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891. He campaigned throughout his life against the social discrimination that Dalits faced. He was a passionate advocator of rights of women and workers as a testament of dedication to justice and equality; this is why he made up some of the key architects in the modern India. He also had the position of a drafting committee of the constitution of India, which is the document that encapsulates his ideals of democracy and social equity.

The Mahaparinirvan Diwas reminds us of Ambedkar’s invaluable contribution toward shaping India’s democratic fabric. The briefest moment of union between PM Modi and Kharge during the event symbolises how Ambedkar’s legacy continues to unite the nation, reminding it that only collective efforts could ensure a just and equitable society.
