Opposition on Adani: Centre using Common man’s money to aid Adani
“Letter to PM Modi, CBI and ED to confiscate Adani’s passport”: Opposition on Adani
Opposition on Adani: In response to the ongoing Adani Enterprises crisis, the Opposition has declared on February 2 to conduct nationwide protests on February 6 in front of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and State Bank of India branches in all districts.
Venugopal said to ANI, “The Government at the Centre is using common people’s money to support their closest friends. Congress party has decided to have nationwide agitation across districts of the country in front of LIC and SBI offices on Monday.”

“The government can’t jeopardize the hard-earned money of the people of India to profit the crony friends of the Prime Minister,” he added.
Congress claims that the Adani Group’s links to public sector banks like the SBI and LIC significantly affect middle-class savings.
In response to a question about regulatory oversight worries in light of the recent crisis involving Adani group companies, Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth said he would not comment on “this company’s transactions”. He also said that exercising regulatory oversight over each “economic actor” is unnecessary even for regulators unless systemic issues are involved.
“The regulator needs to see.. are there any systemic issues? How is the overall sector behaving? Oversight doesn’t mean for each and every company.. Where is the capacity, and is it really needed for somebody to oversee each and every economic actor?” he told The Hindu.
“This will play out in the market. This is one company’s events, and the regulator will have a look at it whether they have adhered to the norms of the market,” Mr. Seth said.
Indian newspaper Business Standard reported Mr Jindal and Mr Mittal’s participation in Adani Enterprises’ shares. Mr Jindal has invested about $30 million in Adani shares.
The JSW and Bharti representatives of Mr. Jindal and Mr. Mittal declined to comment on potential investments by the founders in the sale of Adani shares.
The claims against Mr. Adani by Hindenburg Research are seen as a danger to the nation’s whole economy, which is why some of India’s greatest corporate names—some of which may have competing business interests—are participating.
Lashing out at the Centre over the Hindenburg report against Adani Enterprises, the joint Opposition dubbed the stock crash a “Maha ghotala (scam) in Amrit Kaal” and questioned the government’s “silence” over the issue.

The Congress questioned about Chinese businessman Chang Chung-Ling to bring up China’s involvement in the issue. “This name came in the AgustaWestland case. Manmohan Singh’s government ordered a JPC into that. They wanted to drag our name, but the person involved was their friend’s partner. You may remember SG, Sushen Gupta, but it was presented as Sonia Gandhi. Chang Chung-Ling and Gautam bhai are partners. They have the same office in Singapore where they operate. What is this relation now?” Pawan Khera said.
Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, in an interview with ANI, said he had written to PM Modi requesting that the passport of Gautam Adani be confiscated. “I have written to PM Modi, CBI and ED to confiscate Adani’s passport. Otherwise, what would the crores of people do if he flees the country like other businessmen?” he said.

The opposition leaders expect the government to fight back and refuse to agree to their demands. They will therefore try to corner Modi on the Parliamentary stage.
The pre-lunch session of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha was adjourned due to opposition parties’ demands for a joint committee to investigate and debate the fraud allegations that allegedly caused the stock market crash at the Adani Group of Companies.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the Opposition, took the initiative to attack the government’s central office and called for either the formation of a joint parliamentary committee or an investigation into the incident under the supervision of the CJI.
“Either a Joint Parliamentary Committee or a team under the supervision of the CJI of the Supreme Court should investigate this,” Kharge said.

On this issue, several opposition MPs have sent notices to the relevant houses of parliament suspending business.
However, the session ended shortly after it finished at 2 o’clock in both Houses.
The leaders who gave the notice in their respective Houses include the leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the CPI(M) in the Rajya Sabha, MP Elamaram Kareem, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi (Uddhav Thackeray faction), CPI Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam, Bharat Rashtra Samithi Lok Sabha MP Nama Nageswara.
Since most of the Indian government Sectors are linked with Adani Enterprises, Will this affect the 2024 elections for the Modi government?
