Operation Sindoor: A Strategic Response To Terrorism

A Precision Operation Against Terror Camps

Operation Sindoor, conducted in May 2025, marked a turning point in India’s counter-terror strategy. The operation was launched after a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In retaliation, India carried out targeted strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, dismantling facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Use of Advanced Weaponry With Minimal Collateral Damage

General Dwivedi emphasised that India deployed high-precision munitions during the operation, including SCALP cruise missiles and advanced guided bombs. These weapons were selected with the intention of avoiding civilian casualties while delivering maximum impact on terror infrastructure. The Army Chief stressed that the operation was planned meticulously to ensure global norms were respected, demonstrating India’s responsible military conduct.

Message To Pakistan: Terror Funding Will Not Be Tolerated

Army Chief’s Strong Warning

During his address, General Dwivedi made it clear that India will respond decisively to any form of terrorism emanating from Pakistan. He stated, “When Pakistan fuels terrorism, it is a matter of concern for us. We talk about progress, but if anyone creates hurdles, we will have to act.”
He further added that even symbolic threats, including anonymous letters used by terror groups for intimidation, will be dealt with strongly because India “knows exactly whom to answer.” His remarks underline India’s shift toward a more assertive and proactive defence strategy.

Jammu & Kashmir: Stability And Security Improvements

Significant Drop in Violence Post-2019

General Dwivedi also reflected on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting a remarkable decline in terror incidents since 2019. He noted that not a single stone-pelting event had been reported recently—a significant indicator of improved normalcy and peace in the region.
The reduction in terror activity is attributed to stronger intelligence coordination, increased border surveillance, and the dismantling of terror networks operating in the Valley.

India-China Relations: A Positive Turn After 2024

Dialogue Leading to De-Escalation

While tensions with Pakistan remain high, India’s relationship with China has shown improvement. General Dwivedi stated that after October 2024, political leaders on both sides engaged in constructive discussions, which paved the way for a more stable border environment.
He said, “There have been significant changes over the past year—our relations have improved a lot. When political directions are clear, it benefits every level.”

Strong Ground-Level Cooperation

The Army Chief emphasised that Indian and Chinese border troops have maintained good communication, reducing the risk of misunderstandings. Increased dialogue has ensured better management of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), reinforcing hopes for long-term stability.
