Odisha likely to procure potatoes from Punjab amid inadequate supply from Bengal: The Odisha government is looking into ways to meet consumer demand by obtaining potatoes from Punjab in response to claims that potatoes supplied from Uttar Pradesh were of inferior quality. Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Patra defended the quality of UP potatoes, but he also said that other sources can be taken into consideration in certain circumstances.
Regarding the current scarcity of potatoes, Minister of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Patra said that the government is ready to import potatoes from Punjab if needed. He underlined that his department puts the welfare of its customers first and will take everything to guarantee a consistent supply of potatoes, even obtaining them from Punjab if necessary.
Assembly Elections In J&K Scheduled For September”: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Monday that the Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir will take place in September. He urged the people of the Union Territory to vote for the BJP to power in order to sustain the “development tempo” and eradicate terrorism.
Reddy was speaking at the “Ekatma Mahotsav” event, which his party had arranged at Bana Singh Stadium in RS Pura, Jammu district, on the fifth anniversary of the repeal of Article 370. “The people of J&K will elect the BJP and bring it to power in the September Assembly election in order to maintain peace and prosperity.” The BJP would work with the people of J&K to turn the area into a land of opportunity and put it on the map of popular travel destinations worldwide, he declared.

RSS Slams Congress for ‘Unconstitutional’ Waqf Act Amendments to ‘Appease’ Wealthy Muslims: A senior official of the RSS who is also a member of the central committee claimed that the changes made to the Waqf Act over time by Congress were “unconstitutional” and intended to “please and appease” some “influential and wealthy” Muslims.
The functionary clarified that the Waqf decision made by the government is not influenced by the RSS, saying that the Bill is being tabled after extensive consultation with various Muslim organizations and their scholars. They argued that the Waqf Board Act’s modifications do not, in any case, benefit regular Muslims, women, or children. Rather, they exclusively provide an unfair advantage to a specific group on matters pertaining to land and property.
Train services between India and Bangladesh suspended after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation: Amid the crisis in Bangladesh, where Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled after protests, Indian Railways canceled all train services to Bangladesh on August 5. The Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express (13107/13108), the Kolkata-Khulna-Kolkata Bandhan Express (13131/13132), and the Kolkata-Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express (13109/13110) are among the trains that are impacted. The latter has been suspended since July 21.
