As the clock ticks down to 2025, cities across India are gearing up for grand New Year’s Eve celebrations, with safety and security as the top priorities. Authorities in major urban hubs have implemented comprehensive measures to manage the anticipated massive crowds, uphold law and order, and prevent incidents such as drunk driving. Here’s a detailed look at how various cities are preparing to welcome the new year responsibly.

Delhi: Tight Security and Traffic Arrangements
Delhi is leaving no stone unturned to make the New Year’s Eve safe. The Delhi Police has deployed approximately 20,000 personnel including paramilitary forces for law and order management. High-traffic places such as Connaught Place, Khan Market, and India Gate are given special attention.

Traffic restrictions would be implemented from 8 PM on December 31, wherein buses would be diverted, and exit gates of Rajiv Chowk Metro Station would be shut after 9 PM to prevent overcrowding. Only those vehicles with valid permits or invitation cards to events would be allowed into the zones.

47 pickets have been erected for vehicle diversions, where drunk driving and other traffic violations can be curbed, and there are also erected check-posts at strategic places. Medical professionals, excise inspectors, bomb disposal teams, and SWAT teams have been kept ready on standby to ensure well-rounded safety covers.

The Motor Vehicle Act will strictly punish violators. Those found to be driving under the influence will be penalized on the spot. Smooth traffic operations are ensured so that the daily commute does not get hampered by the celebrations.

Kolkata: Enhanced Metro Services and Safety
Kolkata will deploy fortified Metro service and increase the guard. Special teams will be kept on campuses around Park Street, Maidan, and Esplanade. After 9:40 PM, six extra trains will run on the Blue Line to cater for the celebratory crowds.

Hyderabad: Extended Metro Timings and Safe Commutes
In Hyderabad, the Metro Rail services have also been extended so that people could travel late. The last train will leave from the terminal station at 12:30 AM and reach endpoints by 1:15 AM.
The city also provides free rides for the partygoers so that they could return to their homes without driving under influence.

Visakhapatnam: Strict Traffic Norms
The Visakhapatnam Police have put out strict traffic advisories for New Year’s Eve. Major flyover bridges and middle lanes on major roads will be closed from 8 PM on December 31 to 5 AM on January 1.
Those visiting popular places like beaches should park in the designated areas and not obstruct the traffic.

As well as this, for devotees coming to temple on New Year’s Day, single-line parking and restrictions to the movement of vehicular activity have been specifically designed.

Gujarat: Extensive Measures by Surat
Surat has geared up to welcome New Year’s Eve with an impressive strength of more than 4,000 police personnel. It is deploying more vigilance, checking vehicles, and crowd management.
