NDA Seat-Sharing Talks in Bihar: BJP and JD(U) to Contest Around 100 Seats Each
NDA Seat-Sharing talks in Bihar 2025 show BJP and JD(U) contesting roughly 100 seats each, shaping the state’s high-stakes Assembly elections.
NDA Seat-Sharing in Bihar 2025: BJP and JD(U) Likely to Field Candidates in Around 100 Seats Each as Political Battles Intensify
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar is actively negotiating its seat-sharing strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections. Sources indicate that both the BJP and JD(U) are likely to contest around 100–103 constituencies each. This represents a slight reduction compared to the 2020 elections, when JD(U) fielded candidates in 115 seats and the BJP in 110. The potential allocation reflects the evolving dynamics within the NDA and the need to accommodate smaller allies.

JD(U), according to insiders, is set to contest 103 seats while the BJP is expected to field candidates in 102 constituencies. The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) may get 20–25 seats, particularly in areas where it currently has five sitting MPs. Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) is likely to contest eight seats, slightly up from seven in the last elections, and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP could be allotted five to six constituencies. The final formula largely depends on BJP leadership convincing allies to scale down their demands to ensure a smooth NDA alliance campaign.
BJP’s state election committee is scheduled to meet to assess the status of seat-sharing discussions, with a broader NDA state-level meeting planned for the evening. The BJP Central Election Committee (CEC) may convene by late this week or early next, after which the party is expected to release its first candidate list. These steps are crucial as the NDA strategizes to maintain a competitive edge over the opposition.
Opposition Camp Seat-Sharing Formula
The Mahagathbandhan, consisting of the RJD, Congress, Left parties, and smaller allies, continues its internal deliberations on seat-sharing. The RJD, which contested 144 seats and won 75 in 2020, is now seeking around 134 seats. The Congress, previously contesting 70 seats with 19 victories, is demanding 60–65 seats but may need to compromise around 55. The Left parties aim to secure at least 35 seats this time. Smaller partners such as Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Pashupati Paras’ faction are expected to receive limited representation, while Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), having moved from NDA to the opposition, is pressing for over 30 seats and key positions. Sahani’s ambitious demands pose significant negotiation challenges for the Mahagathbandhan. AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi has announced four candidates in Seemanchal, hinting at potential three-cornered contests in the region.

Bihar Poll in Two Phases This Time
The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results announced on November 14. This election follows a major Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, updating the voters’ list to 7.43 crore electors, including 14 lakh first-time voters. The current Assembly’s term ends on November 22, making this election a high-stakes contest between the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan opposition. Campaign strategies across the state are expected to be aggressive, with both alliances aiming to capture the electorate’s attention and secure control over Bihar’s political future.
As NDA seat-sharing talks continue, the coordination between BJP and JD(U), along with the alignment of smaller allies, will be critical in shaping the party’s electoral performance. The opposition camp’s internal disagreements over seat allocation add another layer of complexity, signaling a fiercely competitive electoral battle in Bihar this November.
