After gaining a majority on Tuesday, the National Conference and the Congress will now form the government of Jammu and Kashmir. With 29 seats, the BJP defeated the PDP led by Mehbooba Mufti, which only managed three.

The legislature for Jammu and Kashmir now has 90 seats as a result of the most recent delimitation. The Kashmir Valley is relatively underrepresented compared to the Jammu region. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was pitted against the Congress in an alliance with the National Conference (NC) for the 90 assembly seats. In the meantime, the valley-based People’s Democratic Party (PDP) decided to run on its own.

Soon after the ECI announced that Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference and a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, had won with 36,010 votes, he emerged victorious from Ganderbal. Aga Syed Munzir Mehdi of the PDP lost by a significant margin of 18,485 votes. August 2019 saw the Union Territory hold its first assembly election following the repeal of Article 370. Additionally, this ballot marks the first assembly election in a decade. Three waves of voting were conducted in the Union Territory on September 18, September 25, and October 1.
On October 5, the 90 Haryana seats saw a single round of voting. For its 90 seats, Jammu and Kashmir had three rounds of voting on September 18, 25, and October 1. For both chambers, the majority score is 46. The assembly election took place in the UT for the first time since 2014 and also marked the first time since Article 370 was repealed in 2019. Omar Abdullah, the son of Farooq and the likely chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, stated earlier in the day that the National Conference is amenable to negotiations with Mehbooba Mufti’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) provided that the latter opens up lines of contact. However, Omar stated that his party does not now prioritize that issue.
