Happy National Youth Day! While many developed countries like China and Japan are reeling on the verge of dependent pollution, congratulations on making India the maximum Youth population with 356 million young people. But…Is it enough to be amongst the youngest nations?
Youth represents the most dynamic segment of the total population and the country’s future lies on their shoulders. We are one of the youngest nations in the world with almost 65% of its population under the age of 35 years. Youth is considered the active driver of the nation and not the inactive liability.
What is the idea of development that we have created in the mind of our youth? On this National Youth Day, let us understand some major things that bother Indian youth.
Hyperactive on Social Media
Our youth is hyperactive on social media. And there is no harm in holding an account on one such platform. On the contrary, it is the perfect way to connect with people, ideas, and technologies beyond territorial boundaries. The problems lie in the type of content youth is consuming. The craving of getting instant fame induces them to invest their leisure time in unproductive and unnecessary content. An average Indian spends 18 per cent of their time on productive activities. Yes, only 18!
A youth with no opinions!
In a survey conducted by Economic Times, an average of 30 % of youth have no opinions. 51 % of youth are interested in political issues while 46% are ignorant towards their surroundings.
It was shocking to know that our youth are so ignorant about their socio-cultural aptitude that they cannot have opinions on questions like whether a woman should work after marriage or a man. Even after a drift away from their family, only the wife should always listen to their husband.
To this,
-27% fully agreed
-9% showed no response
-23% completely disagreed
Hence, the majority of youth remain highly concerned regarding their latest gadgets, clothes, and fashion products.
Are they familiar with India’s heritage & culture?

India is also diverse in culture, religion, and faith. Yet again,
-38% do pray regularly
-out of them only 805 read religious books regularly
-45% have not even read any religious scripture ever
However, these figures change with different states. The crux of it is we as a society have created such a system with familial structure, and attitude towards our heritage, culture, and nation that our youth is confused, diverted and lacks a real sense of development.
Respect towards language
When people are enslaved, as long as they hold fast to their language, they had a key to their prison. Our India had suffered invasions, loot, and a drain of wealth. It lost countless heroes who died fighting for it. However, during this period we lost the most important element, that is, our mother tongue. We started losing our hold on our language and threw ourselves into the bondage of slavery for ages which goes on till now.
As a society, it was our responsibility to preserve it. Remember, a foreign language is a mode of communication and not a measure of literacy.
But my dear society, tumne Kya Kiya?
Old is outdated!
Whatever is old is considered outdated; whatever is western is acceptable and appreciable. If the west is truly progressive and flawless, then there should be no discontentment and turmoil within. Be it the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, or any other nation.

Things you may or may not know
Just in 100 years of technological advancement most of the natural resources have come to the edge of irreversible collapse. The nation has to learn from its immense wealth of knowledge, ideas, and a variety of thoughts. The youth need to know more about India’s heritage, structures, and technology. The ancient glory was removed from the discussion. Indian texts are swamped with science and technologies, Subjects like Vimanika Shastra, neurology, surgery, garbh sanskar, etc.
The success mantra for youth (as per them)
The success of youth nowadays is total in materialistic terms. Individual success is measured by their bank balance. The things having a market value are valuable. They want a culture that guarantees materialistic prosperity.
Dear youth, Bharat was extremely successful in terms of materialistic things. Remember it was known as Sone Ki Chideya. According to Angus Maddison, India had the largest economy during the 1000AD and continued to be so till the foreign invasions had exploited us.
Every society experiences a time when its values start fading away. But that does not mean their values were corrupt. It means the next generation is not getting along with the values.
Bhagavat Gita says,
वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय
नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि |
तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णा
न्यन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही
When the body becomes old and deceased, it is discarded like a piece of old worn cloth. And the soul finds a new body.

We as the youngest nation must learn to embrace the beauty of our society and look within to make this nation a better place. Be it limiting social media usage or forming an opinion. Indian Youth can make an impact, all they need is – Realise the Power
