Nakuul Mehta Condemns Hema Malini’s Insensitive Comment on Vinesh Phogat’s Disqualification for Being Overweight at the Paris Olympics
Actor Nakuul Mehta has come out in support of Hema Malini and clarified that the latter was only expressing her opinion when she commented on wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics. An Indian wrestler, Vinesh, was rejected to compete in the women’s 50kg category final due to being 100 grams more than the allowed limit. Malini was able to make a comment about the situation of interest which is about weight maintenance, and it has caused some people to debate.

The following remarks were made by Hema Malini: “I really could not understand that she was barred for 100 gm overweight; it feels very strange; but yes, the weight has to be maintained well; this is quite a good lesson for all; but but I wish she could lose that 100 gm at the earliest and she will not be able to do it.” The comments made by Hema Malini were not well received by many
Famous Indian actor Nakuul Mehta, offended by the remark from Malini, took to his twitter to express his dissatisfaction, in which he accused her for no reason to make such an intolerable comment. When a user commented something about himself ignoring crimes against Hindus, he immediately replied, ‘Rename yourself Ms Whataboutery,’ showing his dismissiveness towards such attempts.
Later on, the backlash was received, Hema Malini came forward to the defence of Vinesh Phogat and posted a message on Instagram that she is a heroine of our nation and they should support her. Still, the statement made by Vinesh regarding excessive weight has overshadowed the positive intent of the gesture and many people are discussing whether Vinesh was right to say it or not?
