Presently, Mumbai is experiencing heavy downpour which caused many inconveniences and loss of lives. The IMD has sounded a red alert for the city which has already lost four of its people to the rains. One of them was 45-year-old woman, Vimal Gaikwad, who lost her balance and fell into an open drain in Andheri, and drowned. Also, three more died from lightning in Kalyan and Thane, showing the dangerous situation brought by the continuous rainfall.

The intense rainfall has led to water logging and traffic congestion on many parts of the city of Mumbai. Chunabhatti station saw passengers wade through flooded tracks while a landslide at Mumbra bypass added to the problems causing more traffic jam. Due to these challenges, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) acted proactively by shut down all the schools and colleges in the city and requested people to stay inside their homes as much as possible.

Operations have also been impacted, for instance, 14 flights have had to be redirected from Mumbai Airport to other cities because of unfavourable weather. Indigo, Vistara, and Air India had to divert their flights to cities such as Hyderabad and Goa. However, among all these changes, local train services have returned to the tracks, which might be a sigh of relief to the people of Mumbai.
