Mumbai’s Habitat Studio Closes After Shiv Sena Vandalism Over Kamra’s Remarks

Mumbai’s Habitat Studio shut down its stand-up comedy operations with immediate effect because of Shiv Sena worker disturbances. The abrupt closure happened right after Kunal Kamra performed controversial material against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Controversial Performance

Kunal Kamra used the term “gaddar” (traitor) for Eknath Shinde during a performance at Habitat Studio which enraged supporters of Shinde. The derisive statement ignited strong disagreement between Kunal Kamra and Shiv Sena members throughout the incident.

Vandalism at Habitat Studio

The launch of derogatory comments by Kunal Kamra led to Shiv Sena workers destroying Habitat Studio by damaging its property while spreading overt intimidation throughout the space. The studio voiced deep distress when employees broke the property and vandalized the studio compound which had been known historically for both art freedom and artist development. The targeted vandalism left the management of Habitat Studio “shocked” while also experiencing “worried” and “extremely broken” feelings according to their official statement. Operational facilities were halted momentarily because the management needed time to reconsider free expression support methods without endangering safety.

Legal Actions and Political Reactions

A formal complaint in the form of FIR was issued to Kunal Kamra because of his comments against Eknath Shinde. A total of forty members from Shiv Sena received legal bookings from Mumbai police for their destructive behavior at Habitat Studio. The joint legal charges in this situation demonstrate the fundamental conflict between speech liberties and public security enforcement.

Different political leaders expressed varied viewpoints regarding this situation. The Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel insisted Kunal Kamra issue an apology regarding his inappropriate statements.
