A Red Alert for Mumbai has been issued. All schools and colleges in the city will remain closed on Thursday due to the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared this decision following the India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgrading the alert level from ‘orange’ to ‘red.’

Mumbai Schools and Colleges Closed:
Municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal declared the closure of all primary, secondary, and higher secondary educational institutions in Mumbai and its suburbs on July 27, 2023. The BMC urged residents to stay vigilant and follow the administration’s instructions during this period.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded:
In the 10-hour period ending at 6 pm, the city received heavy to very heavy rainfall, with an average of 76.45 mm. The eastern suburbs recorded 58.01 mm of rainfall, while the western suburbs saw 70.43 mm.
Similarly, authorities in Raigad district declared a holiday for all schools and colleges until Thursday due to the ‘red alert.’ The district has experienced 64% of the average rainfall during this monsoon season, with Mahad taluka receiving the highest rainfall of 145 mm and Alibaug taluka the lowest at 45 mm in the 24-hour period ending at 10 am on Wednesday.
Residents in these regions are urged to exercise caution and be prepared for the potential impact of the heavy rainfall.
