17 Dead, 3 Injured in Thane Crane Accident
Seventeen workers were killed and three injured in a Thane crane accident at the construction site of the Samruddhi Expressway's third phase in Thane, Maharashtra. An inquiry has been initiated by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

During the construction of the Samruddhi Expressway’s third phase in Maharashtra’s Thane district, a tragic incident occurred where a crane collapsed on a bridge slab. Seventeen workers lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries. The Thane crane accident involved a special-purpose mobile gantry crane used for bridge construction and installing precast box girders in highway projects. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has initiated an inquiry into the Shahapur accident.

The loss of the workers’ lives is deeply saddening. Fadnavis expressed condolences and solidarity with the affected families. He also wished for the swift recovery of the three injured workers undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Prompt Rescue Response:
Following the crane collapse incident during the construction of the Samruddhi Expressway’s third phase in Maharashtra’s Thane district, rescue teams including the police, fire brigade, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were promptly deployed. Three injured workers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Debris Trapped Fear:
Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) Minister Dada Bhuse visited the site and expressed concern about the possibility of more people being trapped under the debris. The Samruddhi Mahamarg is a 701-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, with the third phase set to complete the remaining 100 km stretch up to Vadpe in Thane by the end of the year or by March next year.
