Mumbai police have plugged in extra security measures following alert by the central agencies in the city about a terror threat. Religiously significant places and crowded locations are being given extra attention for public safety and security. Police officials have enhanced vigilance and have been conducting “mock drills” at other strategic points within the city to prepare for any untoward incidents.

It is being asked of the city’s Deputy Commissioners of Police to keep a close check on the security arrangements in their zones. Places of worship, especially temples, have been requested to be more alert and inform in the event of any strange situations. Sada Sarvankar, president of the Siddhivinayak temple trust, claimed that Mumbai Police has instructed them to increase the security arrangement.

Besides religious institutions, the busy Crawford Market area, replete with so many religious landmarks, also witnessed a rehearsal exercise. The authorities clarified that this was a routine security drill for the upcoming festive season of Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali among others.

At a time when heightened concerns have been felt, the Mumbai police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure public safety as the state is getting geared up for the festive season and Maharashtra state assembly elections, which are expected in November.
