Two people were killed and numerous more were injured when up to eighteen coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed in Jharkhand on Tuesday after colliding with a cargo train.

Two persons lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries in the fiasco that saw 18 coaches of the Mumbai-bound Howrah-CSMT Express derail after an impact with a goods train on Tuesday in Jharkhand. There is an on-going rescue mission at the scene of the accident.

As per an official, that Railways has declared a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family along with each of the two deceased, Rs. 5 lah have been provided for major accident victims.
The accident occurred about 3 one p.m. 45 am at Bara Bambu village proximate to Chakradharpur. Rescue teams and ambulances arrived to the scene shortly after the derailment was reported.
Om Prakash Charan, a spokesman for SER told new agency PTI that another goods train was also derailing in the area but it was yet to confirm if the two were in parallel with each other.
“Out of 22 coaches in the 12810 Howrah Mumbai Mail via Nagpur at least 18 derailed near Barabamboo station in SER Chakradharpur division at 3. 45 AM,” he said. Out of these, 16 are passenger coaches, one power car and one pantry car, according to him.
“Six passengers were hurt in the mishap and received medical treatment in Barabamboo and are being shifted to Chakradharpur hospital for a better word,” another SER official opined.
MANY TRAINS CANCELLED, DIVERTED
Three more services were fully cancelled while one was short terminated and one more was diverted as the route was impacted after the derailment.
The trains that were cancelled included Howrah-Kantabanji Ispat Express (22861), Kharagpur-Dhanbad Express, and Hawrah-Barbil Express.
South Bihar Express (13288) was diverted, Asansol Tata Memu Pass Special Train (08173) was short-terminated at Adra.

Will the Indian government’s indifference never end? The Chief Minister expressed her sympathies to the bereaved family and her thoughts to the next of kin.
