Squadron leader Mohana Singh created history on Tuesday when she joined the Indian Air Force’s elite 18 ‘Flying Bullets’ squadron, running the country’s own ‘Made in India’ LCA Tejas fighter jet. Singh was the first woman to fly a fighter plane.

On the flight in the LCA Tejas fighter plane, she was observed giving instructions to the vice heads of the Indian Army and Navy. The two vice chiefs of the Air Force, Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani and Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, flew the trainer versions with two fighter pilots, while Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh flew the LCA Tejas fighter variant alone.

know About Mohana Singh

Mohana Singh is among the first female fighter pilots from India. She was one of the three female pilots admitted into the IAF’s fighter stream. She was one of the three Flight Lieutenants to receive the 2020 Naari Shakti Award. The Indian Air Force then said on X, “Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria CAS and Mrs Asha Bhadauria President AFWWA met and congratulated Flt Lt Avani Chaturvedi, Flt Lt Bhawna Kanth and Flt Lt Mohana Singh on being awarded ‘Naari Shakti Award-2020’.”
