Standardise rates for activities at cremation grounds: MCD
The prices for different activities in cremation sites under the control of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been standardized. With the consent of the relevant authority, rates have been somewhat lowered. Each MCD crematorium has an information board outside that shows the updated prices.

“In view of unification of erstwhile Municipal Corporations with effect from 22/05/2022 vide MHA notification dated 18/05/2022 and in order to bring in uniformity, the rates pertaining to various activities at cremation grounds under jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation of Delhi are described as under,” the order dated September 11 read.
The updated rates include a fuel wood cost of Rs. 700 per quintal, a CNG cremation cap of Rs. 1500, an electric cremation charge of Rs. 500, “pandit sanskar” (last rites) of Rs. 500, “asthi” collection (ash collection) of Rs. 350, child burial at Rs. 300, and maintenance expenses of Rs. 150.
The MCD has about 42 wood-based crematoriums for Hindus, 11 crematoriums that are CNG and electric-based, six crematoriums specifically for newborns, nine Muslim graveyards, and four Christian burial grounds. Designated Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) oversee their operations.
However, the prices of services were predetermined. The municipal organization has, however, received complaints regarding multiple crematoriums collecting fees beyond the set rates. The official stated, “After reviewing these complaints, the MCD issued the order to strictly implement the fixed prices for the activities at crematoriums.”
