Speaking at a press conference in the nation’s capital, Mayawati claimed that the Jat community’s deeply ingrained casteist mentality was the reason the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)-Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) alliance failed to win votes from them, with the exception of a few seats.

In reference to our party’s standing in the results of yesterday’s elections in J&K and Haryana, I would like to point out that Haryana is a state that prioritizes agriculture. The anti-farmer policies and actions of the State and Center have not pleased those involved in agriculture, particularly the Jat community. They’re still not content. For this reason, the Congress party received the vast majority of the Jat community’s votes. Thus, save from a few seats, the BSP-INLD combination did not receive the support of this community. However, the Jat community did not cast any votes for BSP candidates because of their casteist mentality, according to the BSP president.

Conversely, all of the BSP’s Dalit base vote went to INLD candidates. The BJP benefited from the Jat community’s votes that were associated with the Chautala family because of their internal strife.Amid this infighting, the BJP also received the votes of the non-Jat community. Thus, the BJP won this election once more,” Mayawati declared. The BSP president expressed disappointment that her party’s chances were harmed by the election’s continued division between the Jat and Non-Jat populations.
