The nation mourns the loss of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, whose mortal remains were placed at his New Delhi residence for the public and dignitaries to pay their last respects. Political leaders from across party lines, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda, visited his residence to honor his memory. PM Modi, in his tribute, described Dr. Singh as a “towering figure who shaped India’s economic and political landscape.” Amit Shah acknowledged his pivotal role in driving India’s liberalization reforms, while JP Nadda called him a “true statesman with a calm demeanor and deep intellect.”

Members of the Congress party, led by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, also paid their respects to the leader who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. A tearful Rahul Gandhi called him a “guiding light” for the party and the nation.

Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister is remembered for landmark economic reforms, the Indo-US nuclear deal, and his efforts to stabilize India’s economy during the global recession. Before his political career, he served as the Finance Minister, steering India through economic liberalization in 1991. His intellect and integrity earned him admiration across political lines.
The public has also been allowed to pay homage, with thousands gathering outside his residence. His funeral, scheduled for tomorrow, will include full state honors, reflecting his immense contribution to the nation. As India bids farewell to this visionary leader, his legacy of humility, intellect, and service to the country will remain etched in history.
