3 Lakh UP Employees Face Salary Cuts Over Manav Sampada Compliance

Deadline Looms: Over 13 Lakh UP Government Employees Risk Salary Cuts for Non-Compliance with Manav Sampada Asset Declaration Portal by August 31
In Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has issued a stark warning to over 13 lakh government employees: failed to declare their assets on the Manav Sampada portal, have their salaries reduced as a punishment. This mandatory submission is required by August 31, and in the case that it is not completed, the salaries will be held back, as reported by reports. This was introduced starting August, 2023, with the initial reporting date scheduled for December 31, 2023 to enhance the roll, out of transparency and accountability measures. Having extended the deadline for compliance several times, the level still remains low: Only approximately 26 % of the 17. 88 lakh government staff have filed their assets statements.

The state government has stressed that the Manav Sampada declarations are the only way to make all three tiers of government answerable for their actions. This directive applies to all employees within the organisation and there are no exemptions allowed for any employee, regardless of his or her post in the company. In particular the Principal Secretary of the personnel department who has relayed the order given by the Chief Secretary to all senior personnel stressing on the necessity of this compliance.

But the opposition led by Samajwadi party has criticised the government for its decision of extending the deadline for filing the returns again and again. They maintained that the extensions demonstrate a lack of good implementation of an anti-corruption initiatives and stated a collapse of state apparatus. Since the deadline is near, the government employee’s pressure increases to avoid interruption of his salary and other advantages.
