In Himachal Pradesh, there has been unrest over mosque disputes in Shimla and Mandi. In response, a trade union in Manali has ordered that the local market stay closed until 11 am on Saturday. Shops around Manali Mall Road are currently shut. This closure is part of a broader reaction to ongoing tensions related to a mosque dispute in Sanjauli.

In Mandi, Hindu groups recently protested, demanding the demolition of an unauthorized part of a mosque. They tried to advance towards the mosque, leading to clashes with the police. On Wednesday, the situation escalated when demonstrators broke through barricades and threw stones, resulting in injuries to six police officers and four protestors. The police are now investigating the protests, gathering call records of those who incited the violence.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has called for peace and urged people to avoid provocative statements. He emphasized the importance of respecting all religions and maintaining order. On Thursday, members of the Muslim community in Mandi demolished part of the mosque, claiming it was encroaching on government land.
The protests in Shimla over the mosque dispute have been ongoing for a week. The situation became more violent on Wednesday, with protesters clashing with police. Eight FIRs have been filed against over 50 people involved in the protests, and more cases may follow. In Mandi, the municipal corporation has given the mosque management a 30-day notice to remove the part of the mosque built on encroached land.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh has commented that the unity among Hindu groups led the Muslim welfare committee to agree to some concessions regarding the Sanjauli mosque issue.
