Maharashtra Man Arrested for Hoax Bomb Threats That Led to Airport Disruptions and Heightened Security Measures, Identified After Email Tracing
The Nagpur Police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Gondia, Jagdish Uikey, suspected to be the ringmaster of doing hoax bomb threats calls that resulted in delayed flights and tight security measures in airports as well as important institutions in the state.
The apprehension was held two weeks back after an investigation carried out by the Nagpur Police Special Branch claimed that the hoax bomb calls threat had originated from Uikey from his emails. The false e-threats caused a huge scare, compelling the authorities to be quick on their action to ensure public safety. After the bomb threats, airports went on high alert, flights were detained, and at many places, additional security measures were adopted to prevent any kind of mishap from occurring.
Jagdish Uikey has had similar instances before; hence, he is no first-time offender. He was previously arrested in 2021, in an entirely different case. The current arrest in this case seems to eventually have set the spotlight on his past because Uikey had, after all, written a book on terrorism. It is this connection that appears to have raised suspicions about his intent and what might be considered as having driven him into holding such a list of doing hoax bomb threats type of crimes. While nothing has so far been mentioned by the authorities about the nature of the 2021 case, Uikey’s profile has given the case an unsettling dimension.

The threats significantly disrupted, but at the same time, they brought into sharp focus the extreme impact that such threats could cause. Even though the emails had been identified as hoaxes within a very short time, the threats had already set off panic on a wide scale and deserved a full-scale security response in its wake. The police had to take the threats seriously to maintain public safety.
The arrest of Uikey has come as a significant development in bringing to an end the recent wave of false bomb threats. The Nagpur Police are investigating if Uikey was working alone or with others.
