Mamata Banerjee Mourns the Tragic Death of Kolkata Doctor, Dedicates Trinamool Chhatra Parishad Event to Her Memory and Calls for Justice
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the killing and rape of a young female doctor at RBK Medical College in Kolkata on August 9 and conveyed her deep condolences to the girl’s family. The grievous act has elicited a cycle of protest across the country, and thereby has contributed to the justice system.

The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad’s foundation day was a message posted on X (formerly Twitter ) Banerjee offered a tribute to the victim. She expressed her grief to the bereaved family and to all the women who like her sister have met their unpleasant fate and said, “Today, on the foundation day of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, I dedicate it to our sister, whose tragic loss at RG Kar Hospital we mourn deeply. We seek immediate justice for this horrific incident. Our hearts are with all women who have been victims of such inhuman acts. I am deeply sorry.”

He also stressed on the importance of youths and students of the society to remain committed to their cause and make change. She emphasized, “It is the duty of the student community to awaken society and culture, to bring forth the dream of a new day. I appeal to all students: remains optimistic in this endeavour, remain hale and hearty, and insist on the attainment of a brighter future.

The situation in the state has gradually become tenser and has recently seen the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest marches in which protesters even fought with the police. In response, the BJP has demanded a twelve hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ claiming that the Trinamool Congress has unleashed a reign of terror. That is why the unfortunate death of the young doctor has only increased the people’s expectations for immediate justice and actions towards ending the violence against women amid the political instability.
