Trinamool MP criticizes panel chief, warns BJP amid cash-for-query scandal, while BJP’s Nishikant Dubey takes a jibe.
New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra recently expressed her concerns about her appearance before the Lok Sabha ethics panel in connection with the cash-for-query scandal. She accused the panel’s chairman, Vinod Sonkar, of asking inappropriate and irrelevant questions during her testimony. Moitra claimed that the BJP was attempting to discredit and target women MPs with false narratives and that she possessed a complete transcript of the panel’s proceedings.

In a social media post, she stated, “Before you attempt to push out women MPs with false stories, remember that I have the exact transcript of the Ethics Committee’s proceedings. It contains the chairman’s inappropriate questions, the opposition’s objections, and my protests, all in official records. Shameless and indecent.”
Moitra Welcomes BJP’s Criminal Cases
She also expressed her apprehension about potential criminal cases being planned against her by the BJP. She welcomed any such cases and emphasized that investigative agencies like the CBI and ED should also focus on pressing matters, such as investigating the Adani Group’s alleged involvement in a ₹13,000 crore coal scam.
In another comment on social media, Moitra labelled the allegations against her as diversionary tactics by the BJP and Gautam Adani.
Also BJP – before you push out women MPs with fake narrative remember I have EXACT transcript of record in Ethics Committee verbatim. Chairman’s cheap sordid irrelevant questions, Opposition’s protests, my protests – all there in offical black & white.

On the other side, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who had filed the complaint against Moitra, made a sarcastic remark, suggesting that Moitra had accepted gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani but not from Gautam Adani, referencing her allegations about Adani’s peace offer.
Mahua Moitra Denies Wrongdoing
Darshan Hiranandani had previously claimed that Moitra received expensive gifts in exchange for allowing him to post questions on the Lok Sabha’s official website using her login credentials. Mahua Moitra denied any wrongdoing, stating that she had shared her login information with Hiranandani, who was her friend and had asked him to have his staff enter her questions on the portal. She argued that the questions could not have been posted without her OTP, signifying her approval.

Mahua Moitra’s frustration with the Ethics Committee’s proceedings reached a point where she walked out during the meeting, accusing Vinod Sonkar of posing unethical and personal questions. Sonkar countered by claiming that he had only asked questions related to the allegations against her, allowing her to answer as she saw fit.
The situation escalated, and Mahua Moitra wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, describing the chairman’s behaviour as unethical, sordid, and biased. She accused Sonkar of conducting her hearing in a defamatory manner and expressed her disappointment with the Ethics Committee’s conduct, which had led to some members boycotting the proceedings in protest.
