Maharashtra Rains Alert – While there was heavy rain at night and continuous in the morning, many areas of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad were flooded in the morning on Thursday due to water from the catchment areas of the dams. In this connection, the IMD has sounded a ‘red alert’ for the city. This is social issue because four people have been killed so far following the rain related mishaps. Heavy rains resulted into three persons being electrocuted through water at Pulachi Wadi in the Deccan Gymkhana area this morning. In another incident one person died while other got injured in a landslide in Adarwadi village in Maval tehsil when a heavy rock rolled and fell on the road. Deceased is a staffer of a restaurant.

Speaking to Punepune News, Pune Collector Suhas Diwase said that water is being discharged from Khadakwasla dam due to heavy rainfall reported in its catchment area. Diwase said that Maval, Mulshi, Bhor, Velha, Khed, Junnar, and Ambegaon areas of the western ghats have received heavy rains Rains are especially high in the catchment areas of Khadakwasla dam and hence since morning over 35,000 cusecs of water has been released which can go up to 40 to 45,000 today.
Pune city and area schools have been closed today specifically due to the order of the collector Suhas Diwase. Schools in Pimpri Chinchwad, Bhor, Velhe, Maval Mulshi, and Khadakwasla fall under the order to close too. Diwase also stated that all the establishments considered tourist destinations have been temporarily closed; the same has also been requested from all private offices and units of industries. Moreover, Pavana dam that caters to water supply for Pimpri-Chinchwad city was the filled up to 58 per cent of its capacity on Wednesday afternoon following heavy down pour in Maval taluka of Pune district.

The deputy chief minister posted on X , “Have been taking stock of the heavy rainfall situation in various districts of Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kohlapur and Sangli since early morning from my office.” “The concerned officials from Disaster Management System and District Administration have been directed to take proactive measures to ensure that rescue and relief work is done without any delay.” , he stated. “I request everyone to stay cautious in this weather and be alert when travelling,” he said, urging the populace to stay safe. Our top priority is keeping you secure.”
