Indian Air Force to Transport Bodies of Maharashtra Pilgrims Killed in Nepal Bus Tragedy Back to Nashik on Saturday
Unfortunately, an Indian Air Force plane will carry the bodies of the Maharashtra pilgrims who died in a Nepal bus accident back home to Nashik on Saturday. One of the worst mishaps took place in Jalgaon district in north Maharashtra in which at least 27 devotees died. The bus they were travelling in drove off the Ridi Bridge over the Marsyangdi river in central Nepal and fell into the river.

The unfortunate bus was on a protruding trip from Pokhara to Kathmandu; it diverged off the Chitawan’s Anbookhaireni District, highway and plunged into the river. Out of 43 passengers in the bus including driver, two helpers with disability, 16 of the passengers were killed on the spot even as 11 others died from the impact of the injuries as they were being treated. Except for the above-mentioned people, six of them are still critical and have been evacuated through a helicopter to Kathmandu and are admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

The 104 pilgrims were part of a tour group from Maharashtra that reached Nepal two days ago for a 10 day tour. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has got in touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah for required help. Currently, the Maharashtra government is in liaison with the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner and the Indian embassy in Kathmandu in the process of facilitating the repatriation of the victims.

For the deceased, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked, even as State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil declared state help was proceeding unabated. Senior NCP leader Eknath Khadse who visited the grieving families said: It was a terrible tragedy that claimed decent and hardworking women and men. Union Minister Raksha Khadse will also make her way to Kathmandu to deal with the repatriation of victims and survivors.
