On August 1, 2024, the oil marketing companies (OMCs) raised the price of 19 kilogram commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 8.50 with effect from the start of a new month. The 14 kg home gas cylinder’s pricing is still the same, though. On the Indian Oil Corporation Limited website, the price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased from Rs 1646 to Rs 1652.50, a rise of Rs 6.50. The cost in Kolkata is now Rs 1764.50 due to an increase of Rs 8.50. The revised cost is Rs 1605 in Mumbai and Rs 1817 in Chennai.
The cost of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders was cut by Rs 30 on July 1, 2024, prior to the most recent price hike. The release of the Union Budget preceded the most recent price increase. The Indian government projects total receipts, exclusive of borrowings, to be Rs 32.07 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2024–25. It is expected that net tax receipts will be Rs 25.83 lakh crore, and the fiscal deficit will amount to 4.9% of GDP. Notably, a sizable portion of government revenue comes from the oil industry.
The cost of household LPG cylinders has not changed. The non-subsidized 14.2 kg LPG cylinder still costs the same amount. Prices in Delhi are Rs 803, in Kolkata Rs 829, in Mumbai Rs 802.50, and in Chennai Rs 818.50. Notably, a household LPG cylinder in Delhi cost Rs 1103 on June 1, 2023. Oil firms announced a substantial reduction of Rs 200 on August 30, 2023, lowering the price down to Rs 903. Then, on March 9, 2024, the price was reduced by an additional Rs 100.
