Law Minister Arjun Meghwal Defends Lateral Entry System, Rebuts Rahul Gandhi’s Claims, Highlights Historical Appointments, and Condemns Kolkata Incident
On Monday, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal strongly reacted to Rahul Gandhi regarding his allegations of providing pressure to abolition the reservation system through the separatist Lateral Entry of the Government. In response to this, Meghwal felt the need to apprise Gandhi of the fact that the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had also joined as Finance Secretary through such a method of lateral entry in the year 1976, which countered what Gandhi was saying about this method being new or improper.
Meghwal downplayed Gandhi’s concerns that through this system people aligned to the RSS were being taken on-board as employees describing these as witty assertions. The UPSC has been entrusted the task by Prime Minister Narendra Modi setting rules for lateral entry which was earlier unregulated. Whatever staffing or hiring to be made, UPSC will make it Which means that UPSC will undertake all the recruitments necessary for any fresh vacancies. Where is the issue of Modi’s BJP, RSS in this? Blatant untruths are being spread”, Meghwal said.

The minister also argued that Gandhi tried to mislead the public and tried to tarnish the image of organizations such as the UPSC. He pointed out that even pernicuous jokers like Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Sonia Gandhi have been appointed through the same process, asking Gandhi not to play as acting superior. Meghwal felt that it was a direct jump that was done by him, “Dr. Manmohan Singh was also part of the lateral entry How you directly made him the finance secretary in 1976?”
