Six other doctors, including Mahato, are participating in the indefinite fast: Arnab Mukhopadhyay from SSKM Hospital, Pulastha Acharya from NRS Medical College, Sayantani Ghosh Hazra from KPC Medical College, and Snigdha Hazra, Tanaya Panja, and Anustup Mukhopadhyay from Kolkata Medical College and Hospital. With the tensions rising, junior physicians said that the Kolkata Police was stopping them from setting up bio-toilets at their protest location, calling it “unfortunate.” They have also installed CCTV cameras at the dais in order to preserve openness throughout their strike.

Protesters listed nine further demands in addition to justice for the killed lady physician. These included the dismissal of Health Secretary NS Nigam immediately, accountability for claimed administrative errors, and the creation of a centralized referral system for hospitals. They also demanded that police presence in medical facilities be stepped up and that open posts be filled by medical professionals as soon as possible.
