CPI(M) Faces Bypoll Setback
The result of this bypoll is a significant setback for the ruling CPI(M), which faced allegations of corruption and nepotism from the Opposition Congress-led UDF and the BJP. Reacting to the win, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala interpreted it as a message to both the Modi and Pinarayi Vijayan governments, suggesting that the BJP and CPM had been rejected by the people of Puthuppally. This by-election had an exceptional landslide margin, sending a clear message to the political landscape.
