As the health minister, he is in a responsible position, thus he should exercise caution anytime he speaks to the media or in public. His recent remarks against Veer Savarkar were unsuitable. He asserted that Savarkar ate meat even though he was a Brahmin. To Dinesh Gundu Rao, may I ask you this: Do you have any evidence that Savarkar ate beef? Or, directly speaking, did Veer Savarkar show up in your dreams and acknowledge it?” he said.

Dinesh Gundu Rao stated, “Savarkar was not opposed to cow slaughter,” on October 2, during the Kannada launch of Gandhi’s Assassin: The Making of Nathuram Godse and His Idea of India. Though not vegetarian, he was a Brahmin from Chitpavan. He was modernist in that sense. He was modern even if his worldview was in some ways fundamentalist. Some even claim he ate beef, although being a Brahmin, he was undoubtedly a meat eater and an outspoken supporter of it.”
Mr. Gowda also urged the minister to engage in an open dialogue about Savarkar. “I issue a challenge to Gundu Rao to arrange a time, location, and agenda for a public conversation on this issue. Rather than permitting such untrue accusations and rumors about Savarkar to proliferate, we are prepared to have an open discussion about this. I implore you to concentrate on both the people’s health and your portfolio,” he continued.
