The dispute started, according to the SP, when the Ganesha procession stopped for five to seven minutes in front of a dargah in a sensitive region, resulting in verbal exchanges between two groups.

When participants in the march accused the police of limiting their freedom of movement, tensions increased even though the police had originally dispersed the gathering. Then people started gathering on both sides and throwing stones at each other, which turned into a full-fledged riot. Some members of the gangs allegedly set fire to cars and stores as they dispersed.

A gang of miscreants allegedly set several stores and bikes on fire during the Ganesha procession, which sparked more mayhem and violence. The two groups stoned each other, breaking seven bikes, six small shops, and other property, and injuring two police officers. Thankfully, no reports of injuries to the public have surfaced. According to SP Baladandi, “the situation is now under control, and police personnel are patrolling all streets.”

The dispute occurred after the Hindu community insisted that things were going according to plan, while the Muslim community complained that the procession had stopped and people were dancing in front of the dargah. To stop things from getting worse, authorities have stepped up police presence at more than 400 places.

Parameshwara, the home minister for Karnataka, revealed that 52 individuals from both tribes had been taken into custody in relation to the rioting. He made this statement to the Bengaluru media: “The situation has been brought under control, and additional security forces have been deployed in the area.” In order to identify further suspects, he said, the police are examining CCTV footage and other video evidence.
