Kalindi Express Incident: 14 Suspects Detained as Investigation Reveals Plot to Derail Train and Set It on Fire

The Kalindi Express had a very fatal incident when the train bogie ran over an LPG cylinder that was placed intentionally on the tracks of railway between Kanpur-Kasganj at Bilhaur. The police and investigation agencies like ATS, IB and NIA have collected leads which suggest that there was a conspiracy to blast the tracks and burn the train. In all, 14 suspects have been arrested, and four by ATS in Lucknow themselves. Police officials have not dismissed the likelihood of a terror link.

The investigation further suggested that bag contained sweets box on the occasion of ganapati puja having a security guard near site of occurrence belonging to the shop run by one Chottu of Chhibramau, Kannauj. The owner of the shop has been interrogated and the CCTV footage from the shop has also been taken in to custody. The train which was involved in the accident had a broad collision with the cylinder 17 Kms before Bilhaur luckily none of the part of the train was badly damaged due to the effective action of the locomotive pilot.

Other worrying items that were recovered included a petrol bomb, a powder believed to be ammonium nitrate as well as other ingredients for explosions. Police believed that there was planned attempt to dynamite the tracks and they attributed it to previous efforts such as the one at Panki which targeted the Sabarmati Express.

It is carried out with local suspects and visitors to a nearby shrine being interrogated as authorities strive to discover how wide the scope of this conspiracy was.
