Jairam Ramesh vs Jaishankar: Is India’s China strategy flawed?
Jairam Ramesh vs Jaishankar: Congress Takes Jibe at Modi Governments’ China strategy, terms it “DDLJ”
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed on Monday that the Narendra Modi government’s favored approach to dealing with the Chinese invasions in Ladakh since May 2020 might be summed up as “DDLJ — Deny, Distract, Lie and Justify,” accusing the Centre for refusing to recognize the facts.
The most recent revelation was that India had lost access to 26 of 65 patrolling points in Ladakh since May 2020, according to Ramesh, Congress general secretary in communications. “External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent remarks attacking the Congress party are simply the latest attempt to divert attention from the Modi government’s failed China policy,” he added.
Ramesh went on to say that there can be no comparison between 1962 when India fought a war with China to defend its territory, and 2020 when India has given in to Chinese aggression through denials and “disengagements,” which have cost India access to thousand square kilometers of land.

Jairam’s statement comes days after Jaishankar took a shot at rahul gandhi saying that some people purposefully distribute false information regarding the China issue for political purposes, knowing it is wrong. Pointing at Congress’ talking about some land China seized in 1962.
“Sometimes, they talk about some land China took in 1962. But they will not tell you the truth. They will give you the impression that this happened yesterday,” he said without taking names.
The issue of Chinese invasion along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has been brought up by Rahul Gandhi, who claims that Indian territory has been occupied.
“EAM Jaishankar’s implied cheap shot at Rahul Gandhi for meeting the Chinese ambassador in 2017 is ironic, to say the least, coming from someone who, as ambassador to the US during the Obama administration, presumably met with leading Republicans. Are opposition leaders not entitled to meet diplomats from important countries from a trade, investment and security standpoint?” Ramesh asked.
The Congress leader argued that by discussing the China crisis in parliamentary standing committees and holding a debate in Parliament, the Modi government should have been honest and gained the opposition’s confidence.
“It is extraordinary that EAM Jaishankar has admitted on several occasions that he has no idea why China has turned aggressive on the Line of Actual Control, notwithstanding the unusually frequent contacts between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping and the PM’s boast that he enjoys a special ‘Plus One’ relationship with President Xi,” Ramesh said.
Sonam Wangchuk Detained in Leh
Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, the leading environmentalist in Ladakh, claimed that the Union Territory administration had detained him due to his fast protest asking for special status for Leh. Mr Wangchuk said that the government was trying to “suppress” him in response to his protests against the environmental destruction of the area and unsustainable growth.
The Ladakh administration is asking Mr Wangchuk to sign a bond promising not to comment on the recent incidents in Leh for a month. In light of the current events in Leh, which are now rife with rallies calling for special status under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, the bond says he is not allowed to attend any public meetings for a month.

Additionally, he tweeted a copy of what he claimed to be the bond he was required to sign, which made sure that he wouldn’t make any statements or participate in public meetings for one month.
“I am under house arrest. In fact, quite worse than that. If you’re under house arrest, you know the rules clearly, and you may even explore legal ways to counter them. But right now, I am being kept at our institute, and my movement is restricted,” Mr Wangchuk, wrapped in a blanket amidst snow-capped mountains, told NDTV in a video statement.
He is fasting in support of the Himalayan Institute of Alternative Ladakh, or HIAL, which he co-founded. At Khardung La Pass, where the temperature may drop to minus 40 degrees Celsius, Mr Wangchuk has scheduled his fast. He claimed that the government was attempting to prevent him from getting to Khardung La Pass.
He has called for preventive measures, claiming that if nothing is done, unsustainable companies, tourism, and trade will eventually destroy Ladakh.
Additionally, he has requested that the area be included in the Constitution’s 6th schedule, which permits the administration of some tribal regions as independent entities.
The character played by Bollywood star Aamir Khan in the 2009 movie 3 Idiots was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk’s life. In 2018, he also received the Magsaysay Award.
