The Indian Coast Guard rescue operation saved 36 individuals, aboard the research vessel ‘Sindhu Sadhana’ belonging to CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO). The vessel faced engine and power failures, leaving it drifting perilously close to Karwar in Karnataka. The Coast Guard received a distress signal at 1 pm on Wednesday and quickly deployed two advanced ships, ICGS Sujeet and ICGS Varaha, along with skilled teams to the scene.

Brave Rescue Of 36
Despite challenging weather conditions, with a sea state of 5-6 and strong gusts up to 45 knots, the Coast Guard pressed ahead with the mission. They successfully towed the distressed CSIR-NIO vessel and ensured the safety of the eight scientists and crew members on board.

The vessel was carrying valuable scientific instruments and crucial research data, making it a significant national asset. Moreover, its proximity to the ecologically sensitive Karwar coastline posed the risk of a major oil spill, threatening the pristine marine environment.
Challenges faced during the rescue:
Coast Guard DIG K L Arun emphasized the importance of the research vessel and the challenges faced during the rescue, including rough sea conditions and strong winds. The successful operation saved both the vessel and its crew, ensuring the prevention of potential environmental disaster. The vessels are expected to reach Mormugao harbor on Friday morning
